This movie felt super commercial, from the featuring of Reeces Pieces, to repeated mentions of Coke, to the numerous Star Wars references, I’m only surprised their pizza wasn’t Pizza Hut and they weren’t playing Monopoly. It’s also a movie definitely intended for a younger/family audience so the story isn’t exactly groundbreaking, but the theme of the importance of child-like wonder, curiosity, and optimism has some kind of value. Something weird about the movie is that every scene is super foggy, which makes sense in some scenes but seems really strange in others, like inside their home. I think the most enjoyable part of the movie overall is, partly due to how commercial it is, the way it feels like a time capsule from the 80s, though I do have to say the neighbourhood featured in the film is incomprehensibly upscale, especially for the 80s, and I wonder what motivated that choice.
I watched: E.T. The Extra Terrestrial
